Armed Man Commits Suicide Outside Church During Service

Post Falls, Idaho – A church security team was credited by police for their handling of an incident when a distraught military veteran appeared outside the Real Life Ministries church armed with a gun during the Sunday morning service this weekend.

Once detected, church security staff moved into action and began moving people to safe places within the church and sheltered in place.  The congregation was advised to stay inside and away from windows while the police responded to the incident.

After attempting to negotiate with the man for three hours, the incident ended in tragedy, when the man decided to take his own life.

According to KREM2 TV

“The church was having service at the time of the incident and were placed on lockdown. Negotiators were called in to try to help the man. Officials said at one point he threatened suicide by cop but were able to talk him out of it.

“I walked out to go to the bathroom and my dad is on security and he ran up to me and told me to stay inside and stay away from all of the windows,” said church member, Anthony Wagner.

“After nearly three hours of negotiations, police said the man shot himself in the chest. Officers threw a flash bang as a way to protect themselves as they went to help the subject.”

“What you do in this kind of situation is you are trying to create hope for someone and we had someone here that lost hope and had some difficult time in his life,” said Post Falls Police Chief, Scott Haug.”

According to reports, the church members huddled in prayer, praying for a safe resolution.  The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
