I watched a video of an amazing person. Jeanne Assam, the true hero of the Colorado shooting last December, was interviewed by a local reporter. In the video below, Jeanne explains what transpired that morning, and how she continually prayed during the incident, felt complete peace, and engaged the suspect while her church security team members worked to get the church members out to a place of safety.
Of course, these incidents are thankfully rare, but demonstrate how a trained church security team can respond with valor, calmness, and precision.
Jeanne Assam and her fellow church security members risked their lives while they worked to get their members out of harms way while a man shot up the church with an assault rifle.
Your church will probably never experience an incident like this, but there is a chance your church will experience a medical emergency, or a theft, or a low level disturbance. Having a plan of action, knowing who is going to do what, and knowing what you will do afterward will help your team respond well, and will decrease the amount of trauma your church members may experience.
