For your consideration:

Some time ago while developing our security ministry, I contacted the head of security at a large church in California to see if I could glean some wisdom from his experience. He recommended a great resource that they've used to educate, develop and fine tune their team. It's a book put out by the American Society for Industrial Security (asisonline.org) called “Crime Prevention for Houses of Worship” by Chester L. Quarles, CPP, and Paula L. Ratliff. It's an outstanding reference that's well worth the price. Its ISBN number is 1887056130. Here's a summary of the table of contents:

Part I: Introduction to Security

Chapter 1 – Church Crime Overview

Chapter 2 – Security

Part II: Protecting Property

Chapter 3 – Security and Crime Prevention Planning

Chapter 4 – Trespassers

Chapter 5 – Burglary

Chapter 6 – Vandalism

Chapter 7 – Arson

Chapter 8 – Embezzlement and Con Games

Part III: Protecting People

Chapter 9 – Robbery

Chapter 10 – Sex Crimes

Chapter 11 – Murder and Shootings

Chapter 12 – Hostage Situations

Chapter 13 – Children and Youths: Special Risks

Chapter 14 – Religious Leaders

Chapter 15 – Disruptive Incidents

Chapter 16 – Committing to Security Services

Part IV: General Crime Prevention

Chapter 17 – Sexual Harassment

Chapter 18 – Crime Prevention at a Mega-Facility

Chapter 19 – What Churches Can Do About Crime

Chapter 20 – Conclusion

Great read. It was the first book I read on Church Security. Highly recommended.

If Jack and Glen are agreeable, maybe they could start a thread listing books that would be helpful to CS teams.
