Welcome to members and guests visiting church security member forum. If you are a guest, you may register to use the forum. You may post to general church security topic forums, but cannot access the membership level topics. Much of our content is sensitive law enforcement related information related to defensive tactics, weapons training, and things we don’t want kids or bad people to access.
We would love to have you join Church Security Alliance. When you do, you will have access to the entire site, as well as discounts on self defense and surveillance equipment.
Has anyone encountered opposition to starting a security program in their church? If so, what where the reasons given? Are you a member of the church staff? I would very much like to know how everyone is faring in their endeavors.
I oversee the securty team of a Church in Australia. I wasn't involved in the setup of our team, but let's see if this helps.
1. It depends who is giving the opposition. The approval and direction about a security team needs to be the decision from the Senior Pastor/Board/Eldership team (whoever are the ones that make the key Church decisions). Anyone else needs to learn to submit to the leadership of the Church. If it is the decision makers - then you need to walk through their concerns together and find common ground. Most people's perception of security is far from what it can be within the Church environment and therefore it's the challenge of those seeking to establish it to frame the safe and secure environment with the vision of the Church. ie From a security perspective, I could create a barricade between the Pastor(s) and church members [it's the easiest way to keep the pastor safe]; but if the vision of the House is to connect and build relationship with their congregation then there's a conflict.
2. Reasons Given: Most people need the why factor. Getting info off this site relating to risk assessment and videos on how to approach Church leadership should help out in this area.
3. I am on Church staff now however I wasn't when I started in my security role. Nor is my paid role related to the security aspect of my contribution to Church.
If I can give final words of advise a) Pray - God is the head of all things and needs to be the guidance. He also has the ability to work on the other people involved b) Communication - Putting new wine in new skins can be a challenge but the more talking and relationship building that goes on, the less anxiety there will be.

GUN Shot Avoidance Video!
Dear Glen and Jack,
I recently subscribed as a Church Security member, and subsequently purchased the Church Security CD and Manual Starter Pack. I am a retired law enforcement officer, who appreciates the effort that you have put into your material. Since I retired from the Missouri State Highway Patrol in December 2006, I have been doing private consulting and investigations. During my MSHP career, I was a certified trainer in defensive tactics, to include reactive firearms training (red-handled gun), so I appreciate the spirit with which you have developed and tailored your program to the church.........
Last week, I provided our pastor with the gunshot avoidance video that was included in an E-mail that you sent out last week. He was very impressed with the content, and the way in which it was presented.......
My pastor has requested that I accompany him to the next church conference meeting, to address the conference about security issues, to include gunshot avoidance and the security manual ........
Kindest Regards,
Rick W
Our Security Team was APPROVED!
Hi Glen and Jack,
Well, my partner and I met with Pastor this morning at his request. 100% positive results. Pastor has given us the go ahead to get a risk assessment done, add a couple to our team, outline plan/policy/procedures, contact local law enforcement & fire depts, contact our insurance underwriter, etc etc. Pastor has actually felt the need to do something for some time now, but we'll start small and work our way up, and we're all pretty excited about it.
Your "Basics...How to get Started" manual has been a great help. I'm not sure our presentation to Pastor would have been as effective without it. My partner is impressed with it too, and is ordering his own copy, so he doesn't have to swipe mine. ........
Thanks for all your help. God bless.

The Church Security Ministry.....is such a vital part of our church ministry. People come to hear the wonderful message of Jesus Christ...the church needs to be a safe place.
Our church security team provides our church family the freedom to focus on ministry while they keep the environment safe and protected. It is a new day in church life and this ministry is a must!

Whenever there is a church violence incident we get a lot of questions about CCW. This is a moral choice each organization must grapple with in light of Scripture. The organization below can shed light on the topic better than anyone from a legal perspective. Click on the button below.
