We have just posted a new report in the Getting Started members section. We discuss the needs for intelligence to provide advanced warning of impending violent incidents.

As amazing as it might seem, your church security team has a
critical need for intelligence gathering. Why do you need to receive
intelligence? To give you the ability to prevent or minimize a critical
incident! A majority of the incidents that have occurred in the past 10
years have had telltale indicators of a problem that became a violent
incident.

After analyzing two of the critical church incidents we had in
November, it is apparent that intelligence is needed to warn the church
security team when conditions exist that may lead to a violent
encounter! In both cases there were major indicators that a violent
encounter could happen. Let’s review these two incidents.

Very informative.

We've had a few recent family problems that could have resulted in some incident. A bitter custody battle; a divorce from an abusive husband; a break-up with a boyfriend who later threatened suicide. All of these could have been carried over into the church, but didn't.

I've been concerned about the need for knowledge of these type problems for a while. Many church leaders may be uncomfortable sharing information on these events, but the safety of the congregation may be at stake.

It becomes a balancing act: you need to know enough detail, though perhaps not everything. You also need to be able to tell the team enough for them to do their job. It also points out that discretion is a major requirement for team members.

Hey Guys,

As a newly appointed "Head of Security" at our church and new member to this site, I feel lead to let others in on my adventure. One of my security personel asked to have a independant security consultant to come into our church and evaluate our team. What i found out is that our team did poorly at best. The "new church seeker" was lead into our associate pastor's office and left alone. He was able to move through our children's area virtually undetected, and wore a weapon loosely under his jacket. In his report, he gave my team 3 out of 10 points. That stinks, but give me a foundation to build on.

So i suggest other team members look into this as well. Intelligence should always start with you…

Great Site, Thanks……..Jeff

You are correct. The staff must feel confident that that can confide information in the team without the risk of it becoming gossip.

However the advantage that it bring to your team is immense. The team leader should know the details and tailor the amount of information released to what is needed.
