To try to understand how many groups have been working in the security/safety ministry realm, please post when you started and your general location. Also did you have any issues in getting started?
Thanks JJ

Our Security Team at church was initiated during the last quarter of 2004, so I guess that makes us three (3), going on four (4) years old.
Jack, as you know, we're located just off I-75 twenty (20) miles south of Lexington in Central Kentucky.

Well….we just started at our church last month and our first official day of service will be Sunday June 1st. We haven't any issues yet in getting started. The Pastor hasn't balked at anything. As a matter of fact, the whole thing was his idea. We are located in about 50 miles north of Columbus, OH

We (Kingsland Baptist, Richmond, Va) began an official Church security ministry in January 2008. I am the Director and have 30 volunteer Church members that rotate in teams of two each Sunday.

Welcome to the forum. Some of the members have a lot of experience in starting and operating church security teams. I hope you enjoy the forum.

We started our security ministry about 6 months ago in South FL. We have 26 Gatekeepers who work in teams of 6-7 every 4 weeks, and others who will remain un-identified. It's a blessing how much good is coming from this.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have gotten off to a very good start. How did your group initially request approval to start the team and were there any barriers that caused you problems?

Been doing this since a series of incidients starting in Dec 2005. I have 6 key members and about 15 volunteers who rotate patrolling the grounds.

I think we started about Jan. 2002. I was a member of the team at the first, but became the leader in late 2003. Our Minister's wife & leader of all the Youth ministries was first to ask for a security team. At first it was just to help deal with rowdy teenagers. However, it quickly grew to all the normal areas of responsibility.
We are in Birmingham, Alabama.

Our ministry started in December 2007. We are located just outside Mpls/St Paul and we never would have thought we would have had such an impact. We initially started like others to help keep an eye on the teenagers, but we have dealt with medical issues, suicide threats, domestic situations, potential weapon issues, and others. We have now been asked to assist other churches on our area to do the same thing.

Good to see you here. I hope that all is going well at the church. I missed having the WTS in Memphis this year. Maybe it will get set for next year.

Been at it for four years "officially". Started about a year earlier as a lone hall-patrol to help kids find their way back to class after we opened a new part of the building.

We have been serving almost four years now. It started out as more of a safety ministry than anything else. With some 6000 people per week, you can imagine the things we face. We are about 40 volunteers security and 15 medical, with 1 part time and 1 full time security officer. I hold the full time position, my title is security supervisor.
Any advise on what to do when you hit the wall with mgt. when you fell it is necessary to take the team to the next level.
We are an hour east of Orlando Fl.
