I really like the website. The information is very helpful to a group just starting out. Are you going to hold a seminar somewhere in the Dayton or Cincinnati area? If so, When? I think this would be very helpful.

Thanks Bill

Hi Bill,

Welcome aboard! We hope to offer a training seminar in early 2009. We will be offering a getting started video and forms CD as an information product very soon.

I saw your question about OC spray and other self defense tools. We offer those tools through http://www.basicsecuritygear.com. It is a new site, and it will have videos of how to use the tools your purchase. Like this one, it is a membership site. I am slowly building it, and adding new products all the time.

Regarding training…law enforcement needs to be trained, but the general public can buy these tools and use them without it. With all defense issues, there is a certain amount of liability when you decide to use them, including empty hand tactics. We want to offer classes on OC, baton, and Taser in the near future, but I think if they are purchased and approved by the church, there should be some training associated with it. If you decide to buy something and then have to use it in self defense, it would be a tad easier to defend if you articulated that you feared for your safety, purchased the item, and used when you felt your safety was threatened.

All defense must be reasonable and proportionate. When you have to use it, then escape. First one to call the police usually wins.Smile

Along with self defense products, I think all men and women should have empty hand self defense training.

Regarding an angry member. If it is disruptive, don't be afraid to involve the local police and have him trespassed from the property. If is showing up to cause problems, the church doesn't have to put up with it.

Let me know if you have any questions about specific weapons, I will try to help you out.

Glen

We are looking into have a initial training session to break the ice here in the South Dayton area. Probably late fall or early in 2008.

Glen and I just need to find the proper place to hold it. The topics that we are considering including are:

Why you need a Security Team and how to
Implement it!

Establishing Team Policy –
Procedures and Responses

Selection Security Team Members (STM) –
What to look for and what to watch our for.

  • Training of Team Members
  • The Medical team – Selection and
    Operation
  • Security Systems – alarms and CCTV
  • Christian Passiveness
  • Working with Local Law Enforcement
  • How to do Background Checks
  • TERRORISM – Should You Be
    Concerned?
  • Active Shooter in the Church
  • Securing the Youth Ministries
  • Insurance Liability program

We are very interested in all of your thoughts and suggestions on what you would like to see. Jack

We will announce it here on the forum and also on the website. Sign up will be through the website. Right now we are looking to find a facility that is affordable and can handle a reasonable amount of attendees. We would like to do a combination of presentations and as much hands on training as we can. It initially looks like a 8 to 10 hour day including breaks and time for lunch.

We are initially looking at doing the first even this fall but it depends on the interest that we see and finding a good location in the Dayton area.

Jack,

Is there any update on the status of this seminar? Is it still in the works? Is it still going to take place? It would be an amazing experience for us to get some real training in everything that we need to know.

My church has a large building if you are looking to have a training in the Detroit area. If you are intrested please let me know I'm the chairman of the Deacon board. I'm sure something could be worked out.
