I really like the website. The information is very helpful to a group just starting out. Are you going to hold a seminar somewhere in the Dayton or Cincinnati area? If so, When? I think this would be very helpful.
Thanks Bill
Hi Bill,
Welcome aboard! We hope to offer a training seminar in early 2009. We will be offering a getting started video and forms CD as an information product very soon.
I saw your question about OC spray and other self defense tools. We offer those tools through http://www.basicsecuritygear.com. It is a new site, and it will have videos of how to use the tools your purchase. Like this one, it is a membership site. I am slowly building it, and adding new products all the time.
Regarding training…law enforcement needs to be trained, but the general public can buy these tools and use them without it. With all defense issues, there is a certain amount of liability when you decide to use them, including empty hand tactics. We want to offer classes on OC, baton, and Taser in the near future, but I think if they are purchased and approved by the church, there should be some training associated with it. If you decide to buy something and then have to use it in self defense, it would be a tad easier to defend if you articulated that you feared for your safety, purchased the item, and used when you felt your safety was threatened.
All defense must be reasonable and proportionate. When you have to use it, then escape. First one to call the police usually wins.
Along with self defense products, I think all men and women should have empty hand self defense training.
Regarding an angry member. If it is disruptive, don't be afraid to involve the local police and have him trespassed from the property. If is showing up to cause problems, the church doesn't have to put up with it.
Let me know if you have any questions about specific weapons, I will try to help you out.
Glen
