Can I carry a Taser in church?

Our church currently will not approve CCW.

Is there any certification required to purchase and carry a Taser in a church?

What should we do for training?

A police officer said they had to be hit with the Taser before thay could carry it. Do we have to do that?

Will you be running any Taser courses?
Can you give me some information and guidance?

Thank

There are several styles of Tasers available. The police versions and the newer civillian styles, the C2. For the C2 version you are not required to be shot with a Taser during training. Here is some initial information from Tasers site.

A TASER
C2 is a personal safety electronic control device that can stop threats
up to 15 feet away. It works by launching out two probes up to 15
feet from a disposable TASER cartridge. The probes deliver a
scientifically designed electric signal that makes muscles lock up,
therefore temporarily incapacitating an attacker for 30 seconds so that
you can get to safety and call 911.

TASER International was founded to create safer personal protection alternatives, while utilizing technologies to maximize public safety and minimize the potential for misuse. TASER® technology has proven itself an effective and safe self-protection tool since 1994 for over 136,000 private citizens, many of whom do not want firearms in their homes for safety reasons. To purchase a TASER X26 or a TASER C2 it comes down three factors: Registration, verification and tracking. First, several safeguards make TASER technology a responsible personal safety tool through our successful institution of the cutting edge Anti-Felon Identification (AFID) program. The AFID system disperses 20-30 serialized confetti and identifies the owner of the TASER device. Our unique AFID program has successfully deterred criminal use for the past decade. A comprehensive Social Security Number identity identification and criminal background search for felonies. The system verifies the age and identity of citizen purchaser. These safeguards ensure maximum protection to all parties while enhancing overall community safety.

RESTRICTIONS to ownership: If you
are over the age of 18, they can be legally possessed in 43 states.
You currently cannot possess a TASER device in DC, HI, MA, MI, NJ, NY,
RI and WI, as well as a few cities like Annapolis, Baltimore, Chicago,
and Philadelphia. Some restirctions apply to CT and IL Please check
your local laws before purchasing or carrying any type of electronic
control device.

The TASER
C2 is shipped out inactive and you will need to pass an identification
verifcation a felony background check to get the activation code.
TASER International has taken on the task of screening the purchasers
to make sure convicted felons can't activate a TASER C2. You can do
this over the internet or if you don't have a computer, you can do it
over the phone and a trained operator will give you the code that is
unique to your TASER C2 to unlock it. Once the TASER C2 is unlocked,
you will never need to do it again but there is a $9.95 activation fee
that is good for up to ten units.

The Taser could be very useful in a church security role. It could be much safer than using OC Spray in a crowded area. We hope to put more information up soon.

As a retired Deputy Sheriff who was Taser certified, I tell you that

you do not have to be hit to be certified. I was not hit and I was certified.

We carry a Taser and ASP and OC Foam plus our firearms. Their

is no qualification for civilians for Tasers. Our church is very open and

loves the protection.

Welcome to the forum.

A couple of questions for you:

What version of the Tazer are you carrying?

Did the church purchase the unit(s).

What did you do for training?

Where are you located?

Did the state have any special requirement for your staff?
