One of our members JohnCz has sent in an article on his selection of Appendix Carry as his preferred method of carrying a sidearm. It is a very informative piece and well worth the read. You can find it here.

Check it out.

We have also added a companion video. In it, John demonstrated the appendix carry and the method for presenting the weapon. You can see it at the link below.

This method is not for all, but it is very fast to draw from, is more secure from being casually bumped into during mingling at church and has some protection advantages during a gun grab attempt. Those of us with a more successful profile (spare tire) may not find it as useful. Take a look and try it with a empty weapon to get a feel for it.

I carried at the 4 o'clock position for probably 20 years. In Feb 2007, I took Extreme Close-Range Gunfighting from Gabe Suarez.

During this class, he recommended we at least try Appendix, specifically Appendix inside the waist band (AIWB). Initially, I parcticed around the house with unloaded weapons (Colt Defender, Glock 30). After a few weeks, I got used to it, and it has been my preferred carry mode for over a year now. I have changed to a Glock 19 or 26 for my primary pistols now.

Body type does play a part in this carry method, I'm 5'11 and weigh 230. Although overweight, I don't find this method uncomfortable. It is extremely fast, with less body movement to bring the pistol into action. And it allows easy presentation while moving off the line of fire (i.e: Getting Off The “X”).

I also carry my cellphone case on the outside of the belt with the gun holstered AIWB behind it. If someone does bump into me there and questions what they hit, I can show them the phone. It has worked twice so far.

Godd idea on placing the cell phone over the sidearm. Some years ago I carried a J frame with the Barami hip clip. It worked very well. I believe that they still make these. I might need to consider them again. Compact and very easy to hide. Also great if you need to go somewhere where you have to disarm. I do try to avoid that if possible.
