I do not want to start a major discussion on if CCW should be permitted in churches. However, we have many visitors that may be considering what a proper sidearm should be. With that in mind, please post what equipment you are using and why you made that selection and your training background. You experience may assist others in making correct decisions on what to carry, how to carry and train. Please comment on:

  1. Which Sidearm and caliber
  2. How are you carrying the sidearm, holster type and location
  3. Are you carrying additional reloads? Total reloads?
  4. Do you carry a backup sidearm?
  5. What and where?
  6. How often do you train at the range?
  7. Do you have an Airsoft version for training?
  8. Have you had additional training beyond the CCW course?
  9. What future training courses would you like to attend?

1.Glock 26 or Glock 19 (both 9mm)

2.Appendix position, either Inside Waistband holster or belly band holster, depending on how I'm dressed

3.One full-size Glock 17 magazine (17 rounds)

4.Not on my person.

5.Have a spare pistol in my vehicle

6.Whenever possible, but at least once a quarter

7.Yes, for training at home when I can't make the range

8.Our state has no training requirement for CCW permit. I have taken 3 close-range gunfighting courses, 1 long-range handgunning class, 1 low light class.

9.Active Shooter/Terrorist Interdiction class; rifle or pistol caliber carbine class.

I got basic pistol training in the USAF. I've shot IDPA matches and am a former NRA Personal Protection instructor. The close range classes have been with Suarez International and Alabama Defensive Pistol Academy. ADPA also did the long rnage and low light class.

These classes have taught how to fight from in-your-face distance out to 100 yds with an handgun. From seated at a table, laying on the ground, from vehicles. I've also taken an AMOK! self defence class called “Accessing While Under Attack” which basically teaches how to get a bad guy off of you long enough to access your gun or knife.

I am very willing to pay out of my own pocket to do this, not only to protect my church family, but my wife, child and myself.

Appendix Holster at 1:30 postion

Are you carrying additional reloads? Total reloads?

Yes, one spare G19 15 rd. mag always, two sometimes.

Do you carry a backup sidearm?

Just purchased a BUG…Kel Tec PF9

What and where?

I plan to do either pocket carry or belly band for BUG.

How often do you train at the range?

I try to get out to the range as often as I can, limited only by finances. That's about twice a month.

Do you have an Airsoft version for training?

No, but I train with my carry gun unloaded.

Have you had additional training beyond the CCW course?

Yes, 3 basic pistol classes with local range, Hoffner's Tactical Pistol I (taken twice, latest with my daughter), Hoffner's Tactical Pistol II.

What future training courses would you like to attend?

Everything I can, limited only by my funds. I am planning on taking Tactical Pistol III, Force on Force Dynamics, and Vehicle Gun Fighting…all Hoffner courses.
