You are facing the unimaginable, a "Bad Guy" is holding you at
gunpoint. You weapon is holstered, if you have one, and you truly
believe that he is going to execute you. Do you know what to do?

During my years as a police officer and later as a church security
officer, I have been introduced to and trained on many different hand
gun disarm techniques. While some are better than others, many are
require a high level of skill and practice to master and maintain the
technique. Others depend on strength, a problem for smaller or older
people.

It is best to choose and practice one style disarm for a specific
situation. You can test various methods, but practice one so that it
really becomes effective and you build the needed muscle memory to
preform it in a high stress situation..

Hopefully you will never have to test out your abilities even if
facing a robbery at gunpoint. But if you ever have to face a potential
terrorist situation at close range, or someone intent on killing you
make sure you have chosen wisely. These techniques are a last resort
when you have decided that the gunman will kill you.

Here are a couple of items to think over about disarms:

  1. If you do not attempt a disarm, will you most likely die?
  2. Is the technique simple and quick?
  3. How you practiced until it is second nature to you?
  4. Does your technique get you out of the line of fire?
  5. Does the technique require a lot of strength? If the gunman has superior strength you might just get into a wrestling match.
  6. Does the technique seem to work for you? If it doesn’t, find a different program.

I will be detailing my chosen method in a video we will have in the members section in the near future.

The core of this technique is simplicity.

There are three steps to the process

S – Safe the muzzle – make sure the gun in not pointed at you in case of a discharge
C – Control the weapon – Keep your hands on the weapon
A – Attack the attacker – Explode with all your anger in with a elbow or hnd heel strike
D – Deploy your weapon – Decide if you have control or need to return fire to continue living.

SCAD will work with the gun pointed at your mid section, head, side or back.
If you decide that you must disarm an attacker, speed is critical
This is a last ditch techinque and there is a significent chance that you or someone with you might be injured.

Stay tuned

I've found this technique that works best for me:

I grab the pistol muzzle with my LEFT hand (I'm right-handed) and push with away and away from me to my left . At the same time, I use my right hand to grab the lower side of other guy's gun-hand (if he's holding the handgun in his right hand) near his wrist and pull upward.

I usually end up with the handgun in MY possession holding it by its muzzle in my left hand with my right hand free to take whatever follow-up action is necessary.

Please post the video as soon as you can. This is something that we all need to know and practice.

One issue with deploying your weapon is that you may have to do something that allows the attacker to remain in the fight. Your weapon is not the solution to the problem! If you can end the fight with unarmed combatives then you should attempt to do so. And, since one gun is already out, why not use that one against him?!

Striking the throat is a great way to get the attacker to think about breathing and not about remaining in the fight. Pressure points don't work well against attackers because of the adrenaline dump. Therefore, you have to think about things that will mechanically shut the attacker down. Breaking an arm in half is a mechanical thing and not a pain based tactic. You cannot count on pain to help you out. You can count on mechanics!
